Commemorative Peal - Yattendon Church Bells

John Allum was a reguar bell ringer at Yattendon Church who along with other local men died in the first World War.

On 27th September this year, 100 years to the day after he died, a group of bell ringers, that includes members of the Allum family, will attempt a peal on the Yattendon church bells to commemorate John and those other local men who gave their lives.

A peal is extremely complicated and difficult to complete - it cannot be corrected if it goes wrong which is why this great effort is being described as "an attempt".

Come along and hear this special event - perhaps enjoy it from The Royal Oak while having a pint. The sound will travel some distance but probably not as far as Frilsham.

The attempt will start at around 6 p.m. For more information about John Allum, read the article on the website "From the Broadsheet" alongside this post.

The complexities of ringing a peal are detailed within this Wikipedia article.
