Volunteers making home delivery of food and medicines

If you are looking at the possibility of using your vehicle to make home deliveries of food and medicines, whether as part of a wider programme or just on an individual basis, this is something that you can do under the most recent guidance, providing you are doing it safely and legally.

Licensing
Provided you are using a private car that hasn't been modified, there are no implications for driver licensing.

Insurance
This could technically be considered a change of use of your vehicles – consequently, we recommend speaking to your insurer and informing them of what is happening.  Because there is a significantly lower risk when undertaking goods delivery than there is when carrying passengers, we do not think that this will present any great problem.

Practical Points

  • Remember to keep 2 metres distance
  • Wash your hands after each delivery
